The First International Congress of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Gluten Related Disorders began in Razavi Hospital in Mashhad. As reported by Congress Press Staff, the Executive Secretary of the First International Congress of IBD and Gluten Related Disorders which is being held at Razavi Hospital said, one of the major goals of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was to reduce the human suffering and preserve Islamic ethics; therefore Razavi Hospital tries to take a major step in reducing human suffering and improving health standards by holding different congresses.

The first international congress on IBD and Gluten related disorders was held in Razavi Hospital from 28 to 30 May, 2014. In the opening ceremony which was held with the participation of Dr. Abdolhosseini, deputy custodianship of Astan-e-Quds Razavi and chief of Razavi Hospital, Dr. Zali director of Research Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and a number of prominent Iranian specialists and scholars; Dr. Asadzadeh, the scientific chairman of the congress welcomed all the Iranian and foreign guests and noted the importance of holding IBD congress and epidemiology of IBD. Pointing out to the previous congresses, Dr. Hojabrolsadati, the executive chairman of the congress, appreciated Razavi Hospital attempts for holding several annual congresses. Stating the general points about IBD and the gluten related disorders, Dr. ZAli acknowledged the created opportunity by this congress to exchange the specialists’ experiences in Iran and the other countries.

Dr. Kamran Ghaffarzadehgan, deputy director of education and research of Razavi Hospital, announced establishment of Colon Biobank containing 100 laboratory samples at Razavi Hospital.Establishing such biobanks requires special infrastructures, he added that at first we examined the two most common cancers, colon cancer and breast cancer. Some samples from patient’s tumor, blood, healthy tissues of blood, colon areas and serum were prepared. These samples are then kept in biobanks to be used by researchers over the years.

He added that unfortunately there is a rise in growth of cancer and bowel diseases all across the world and genetics as well as environmental factors play an important role in this regard.
